comment Thunderbird does not show message body
Sorry, not off the top of my head. Generally you expect the plain text part to mirror the html content. Anything else is bad practice and considered spammy. You don't have to have the plain text part, it can be omitted which is better.

comment How to find which program is reading a file?
This question is getting downvoted (not by me) because it is off topic in Information Security. Please delete this question and ask it instead in the SuperUser group.

I do hope this group won't fall into the problems some other SE groups do. That of downvoting without make clear what the problem is. Please don't assume that new users yet understand the rules!

comment Reset AD passwords in batch without being an administrator?
Well, I'm not that much of an expert myself but I've updated the answer with some hints. Have fun learning some PowerShell!! It really is worth while.

Also, if you do some research, you will see that there are recommended protocols for wiping magnetic media.

Yes, I do this all the time. @vembutech, why don't you make your comment into an answer.

Good grief! You come looking for help as a newbie and expect the world to fall at your feet after an hour! Maybe most people were asleep at that time, or maybe working! Chill out.

comment What archivers support symlinks on Windows?
Great question, it never even occurred to me! Unfortunately, I don't have an answer and couldn't find any of the common tools for Windows supporting them. Unfortunately, people tend to forget about symlinks on Windows though they have been supported for donkey's years.

comment Short-circuited ethernet wiring? Cable tester loop
Without knowing what is at the other end of the cable, it is pretty impossible to give an answer. Is the other end patched to anything useful/working?

comment Using “Outlook:// Protocol”, Open Current Instance of Outlook, not New Instance
You beat me to it! One note however, if using the Office 365 version of Office 2013, note that Office is installed in a different location by default so you need to alter your registry entry to match.

comment Add shared OneDrive document to my drive
As stated, open the original in the Word application and Save As... choose your OneDrive as the location (if you have the OneDrive application installed). If you don't have the application, save to your Documents folder and then upload to your OneDrive via the web interface. Then share with other people.

comment Create copy of variable sized Excel table
Well, the 2nd method is certainly workable and I use it for a number of bits of complicated data analysis. However, if the data is important to you and has worth from a business perspective, it is probably worth having something a bit more robust. Do yourself a favour though - don't bother with Access if you can help it. Instead go for a database engine (SQL Server, MySQL or whatever) with a web front end. Far more flexible and robust in the long term.

comment Can't boot after hardware upgrade
As I said, you may be able to run recovery on it without necessarily loosing everything. However I would say that Windows 8 is much better at this than 7. The problem with installed apps is that they tend to put "stuff" all over the place and it is nigh-on impossible to capture all of that and put it on another computer. You will have a variety of files and registry entries. Some of those, especially for games, are specific to the hardware so it is very unlikely indeed that the game would work anyway I'm afraid. The best you can hope for is keeping any saved games, they should transfer OK.

comment Safe to charge USB devices while doing other power-consuming tasks?
Most laptop/tablet USB ports will not allow more than 0.5w which I seem to remember was the original maximum.

I've seen too many cables damaged like this. The old Apple cables especially are susceptible to wear and you've only got to knock it or tug it a few times before you will damage or wear the little locking clips - after that, it will start to fall out.

I'm confused I'm afraid. The doc belongs to someone who has shared it, you want to further collaborate? So get the originator to share to the others. If you want a COPY to collaborate with others, make the copy as I've said - save it to your OneDrive and reshare.

Some more info would help here. Such as the path's in question. Also, do you have the same user names on both platforms?

No need for PERL if using Windows. Use PowerShell with the suggestion from Berend to us red*.txt etc.

Drat! Well, thanks for the update anyway. Maybe try contacting the author of that tool and see if they can help? Doesn't look as though anyone else has any insight.
