Working in education, happy with code but not so much with sys administration. Responsible for it a number of Linux clusters, with the help of a support company. Sandwiched between internal IT | clients | users | external company.

Have you looked at something like the YubiKey? yubico.com/products/yubikey-hardware/yubikey I've used these when contracting to various places and it pretty much does what you're asking. Looks like it integrates with Truecrypt - yubico.com/applications/disk-encryption/…

It sounds like something is wrong with your Time Capsule, I've checked the (very thin) docs on it and I think you might need to do a reset of the settings (you can use this guide to setup your port forwards again ->must-know-mac.blogspot.co.uk/2008/07/…)

Have you added a firewall of any kind? As this started last night, have you changed anything at all on your network, added any new devices, done something new with your home server?

Hmmm, that's not so good - I've used this one in the past; extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp - is it accurate for you? I should change my answer if it is.

comment Check if internet connection is providing a dynamic or static IP in OSX
Is your router set to DHCP? Get it to renew it's lease a couple of times or power cycle a couple of times - if you get the same IP, and you've asked your ISP to provide you with a static one, chances are you're getting one. I assume you gave your ISP the MAC address of your router?

Would this work - superuser.com/questions/226828/… - basically create a batch file to do the watch and then call if via task scheduler at regular intervals? Also - msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa365261(VS.85).aspx

comment How to send a few Gb of confidential data to non-technical users?
Dropbox can only view the data when they are legally required to do so, i.e. a law enforcement agency acquires a warrant for the data - Dropbox need to be able to comply and retrieve the data. In your case, provided you're operating within your country's law, Dropbox cannot access your data as per their security statement:- dropbox.com/security - you could as suggested by @hennes create a self extracting archive (.zip/.rar etc) with a long complex password (64 chars, mix of case, alpha-numeric + symbols) which you share via a letter or fax beforehand.
