comment What happens when router has been set to incorrect time?
The problem is that on two of people's laptops and phones it does not work but it works on the third person's laptop. We see restarting as a quick solution. When tried to debug it found a problem with the time settings.

comment Aren't egrep, fgrep supposed to be aliases to grep?
Well at least on my system they have different inode number (off by 3). but in principle I understand your point. they could be hard symlinks and the grep program could look up argv[0] to find out what options to apply.

comment Automatic WakeUp from Hibernation on Windows 7
Thanks for that link. I ran the command. Somewhere in the report it mentions that the supported sleep states are S1,S3,S4. This (goo.gl/iKiEy) suggests that the state I am looking for is S5, wake up allowed from clock etc. which is not listed in this report. Is this the problem? But the computer is able to wake up from hibernation when the battery is being charged. Why not when it is not being charged?

i could try that ... but what i am trying appears to be a basic functionality of windows. if it does not work then it is a major bug. does it not work for everyone else or is it is just because of my hardware or configuration? May be I have something configured incorrectly.

My turn off hard disks option is set to 10 minutes. Under sleep options sleep after time is also set. The laptop is fully charged. Not able to figure out.

comment Associating/Grouping a file with a folder in Windows so that they both are moved together
I am using Windows 7. And there must be a way to establish it programatically as Google Chrome is doing it for the saved HTML files.

i also want to know, what is it in sandboxing that prevents me to use the other interface for by passing the VPN network to which I am connected via the first interface. all I want is that my computer should act as a router to select the interface for different applications. what interferes with this idea?

i want to learn in detail about the different strategies that may be used to implement VPN, just out of curiosity. Can you point me to some good resources? Something with an academic touch of concepts will be helpful. simple google search does not give me good resources. all tutorials that i found cover the basic concepts. Thanks

yes that should work ... but for the sake of curiosity is it possible to implement Patkos's solution. I want to change the routing table entries systematically to achieve this. Another thing that I have in mind is that if I install a proxy server on my pc, then can I not direct all traffic from a particular browser through the server.

there is no option "Use default gateway on remote network" in the Cisco VPN adapter that I am using. However there is a list in which the default gateway to the network has been specified with a metric of 1. Can I use this in some way?

i am using cisco vpn client to connect. It was pre-configured. I can see the host name, user name for the connection. but the password is not visible. If I connect using the client I need to specify my own user name and password also.

I want to learn also. I don't think the admin will be happy if I publish the routes on a public website.

I see an entry that makes a NAT address on the network a gateway for destination 0.0.0.0 with metric 21. The addresses on the network use 10.x NAT range. Can I drop this rule and state that all 10.x traffic be routed through this gateway and rest through my other interface. what commands should i use?
