comment Exposé in 10.7: When exposing “Application Windows”, how do you show only the windows in the current space?
This is an obscure way of getting to the feature under discussion: App-Expose. The problem is that windows from the same application but in different spaces are all displayed, instead of only windows from the current space.

comment Permanently set `find` regextype
This has been working well, with one minor tweak. I bracketed the command call with set -f and set +f to control globbing. Since globbing will have happened before the find () function is invoked, disabling it prevents having to double escape special characters that should not be expanded.

You're that bothered over losing two rep for a bad answer? As you've added some other possible solutions, I'm happy to rescind the downvote and try them out. Thanks for the help.

Okay, I found where it put them: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\<random UUID>\ However, all the files are also named via UUID, even lacking extensions. In this case I can guess the file I'm interested in based on the size, but it's not a workable solution if I need to do this with any regularity (which I will).

@wizlog I'm seeing this on multiple machines with multiple files. I get the erroneous behavior with 1.69 GB file mentioned above on a machine with 3.67 GB free, but I also see it for a 1.56 GB file on another machine with 105 GB free.

I can do that (though it would be nice to be able to get them without having to sync), but where are the videos afterwards? iTunes doesn't have a "Photos" area, and the videos aren't showing up under "Movies".

comment What is mencoder's -speed option doing?
Using ffmpeg, the `-r' option sets the frame rate, but it's not doing the same thing as mencoder because it doesn't work as well. Playback software ignores the rate setting if it's out of some range, or not the right container format, &c. Mencoder is doing more than just changing the frame rate.

comment Hiding mouse cursor on Mac OS X when using Synergy
There's a problem with the Mac version of Synergy that causes the mouse not to be hidden--it just goes to the center of the screen and obscures/interacts with whatever program happens to be there.

comment running bittorrent and utorrent together
There isn't really any point in running the two alongside each other. However, it might be convenient to run both while BitTorrent finishes the files it's downloading now to avoid having to import the partially downloaded files into μTorrent.

comment How can I make ffmpeg be quieter/less verbose?
Except that ffmpeg is one step ahead of you, and outputs both configuration information and actual errors to stderr.

For those without a magic mouse, the scroll wheel works too.

comment Using FFMpeg to cut a video into 2 minute clips
Some checking with ffmpeg reveals that the $? condition isn't going to hit anyways because ffmpeg doesn't care if -ss is out of range. Changing the exit condition based on finding the length of the video or that output files aren't empty is left as an exercise for the reader.

Assuming that the infile's extension is .mpg, that should produce output files named infile.0.mpg infile.1.mpg infile.2.mpg ...

Whew, exciting stuff. This 396 sudo mv -n /usr/local/bin desktop looks like you might have moved /usr/local/bin to your desktop folder. Do you have a bin folder in there? (Also, you should have enough rep to sign in to chat, which would be easier than this.)

No. /bin is another folder that you shouldn't bring in to this. (Though if /bin/bin exists, that would be worth noting.) To help us track down where everything went, can you give us the output of history | grep "^mv" (or at least the history of everything following mv -n /desktop /usr/local/bin)

I think we've lost track of what you've done. Which folder has the original contents of /desktop? Which folder has the contents of /usr/local/bin? (Don't mess with /usr/bin, that's unrelated.)
