I'm a security consultant (auditor) and security analytics software developer with Leviathan Security Group; when I'm not doing that I also work with Seekintoo on software design and business development, and poke at sysadmin tasks.

I've also done deskside support, retail support, service delivery, and mobile onsite deployment in the past. More interestingly, I've supported, architected, written, and deployed identity and access management solutions end-to-end with Hitachi ID Systems. I can write technical documentation, reverse-engineer things, write software, administer virtualization environments (primarily for dev environment targets), and run linux servers of various kinds.

The languages in which I feel most at home are C++, x86 assembly (of either variant), python, and SPARC assembly, more or less in that order.

I am often out of close votes - but also out of up and down votes.

comment How do I get yum to see updates to a local repo without cleaning cache?
Nope, in this case, the problem is certainly that it thinks the cache is still valid and doesn't check for updates.

This would be convincing even for a lot of technical users.

comment Windows 8.1 cannot block UDP connection?
If the traffic is coming from the node with the software firewall, it's outbound traffic you want to block, not inbound, to suppress it.

What are the symptoms, and what have you tried? There is nothing here that will help anyone help you.

comment Linux Traffic Control of internet downlink with router as a client
Likely. Managing the egress is usually a better option though, as if you try to manage ingress without really having control of it, you're basically trying to manage ingress by managing egress by degrading ingress (one excess layer of indirection).

That works OK for TCP connections, but as I understand it bittorrent has the option to use UDP.

Ingress QoS isn't going to materially help you with anything, because by the time the packets have reached your QoS device (router), they have already consumed bandwidth.

comment Incoming server mail (MDA) behind ISP => different reverse DNS: How bad?
How do you intend to accept mails without running SMTP? Also, RBLs and DNS checks are rarely if ever applied to egress mail; they are for filtering spam on ingress.

comment OS X Server keeps DHCP DISCOVER even with no client in the net. how to stop?
What is the intent here? This doesn't seem like it would cause any problem in a reasonable environment.
