comment Locking the first screen, but leaving the second screen unlocked
If you can control physical access to the computer, could you prevent access to the keyboard and mouse (or remove them and block access to the physical ports). Otherwise I'd go with the RPi idea.

comment How do you force excel to quote all columns of a CSV file?
If you wanted to do that in Notepad++, you would be best using regular expression search and replace and then you could do all 3 replace operations (start of line, tab and end of line) in one place

comment Any way to use multiple hosts files on windows?
If it was, I'm fairly sure we would have become used to seeing malware amend the location, leaving the hapless victim checking the wrong file. I don't believe this is the case. This superuser article indicates that there is a registry key for it, but it doesn't work in Windows 7: superuser.com/questions/319949/…

comment Workstation does not unlock when connected remotely to server
I was wondering if it could be something strange happening to your keyboard layout, e.g. the remote server has a US keyboard layout and yours is UK. Have you tried typing your password into the username field to see if the right characters appear? Don't hit return or your password may be stored in an event log in plain text.

comment Hide everything on desktop (taskbar, etc.) except certain icons for one Windows XP user account
Agree with the comment above. Check out key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and the hkcu equivalent. As for the icons you should be able to do that with file permissions on the .lnk files.

comment How can I count the total number of times a specific string was found in a text file, and store it in a variable?
If you want to do the count in kixtart there's some example code here which should do the trick:kixtart.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=66303

comment Wake-on-LAN stops working after a few hours
Assuming you have other Windows PCs on the network, you could try using a Windows utility such as:nirsoft.net/utils/wake_on_lan.html from one of those. If it always works from there, then the problem likely sits with the Linux server or the commands you are running. If not, it may be a switch problem. I've used wol extensively in the past on hundreds of machines and have only ever used a "wol macaddress" format... Never needed to refer to the ip address.
