comment Google Chrome redirecting router request to port 81
Have you tried specifying port 80 in your request in chrome? Have you tried using https instead?

comment How to make a wifi hotspot that tracks all requests?
Can't you just use a network monitoring tool such as wireshark, then filter the data to only show the requests you are interested in?

comment Workstation does not unlock when connected remotely to server
I was wondering if it could be something strange happening to your keyboard layout, e.g. the remote server has a US keyboard layout and yours is UK. Have you tried typing your password into the username field to see if the right characters appear? Don't hit return or your password may be stored in an event log in plain text.

comment Hide everything on desktop (taskbar, etc.) except certain icons for one Windows XP user account
Agree with the comment above. Check out key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and the hkcu equivalent. As for the icons you should be able to do that with file permissions on the .lnk files.

comment How can I count the total number of times a specific string was found in a text file, and store it in a variable?
If you want to do the count in kixtart there's some example code here which should do the trick:kixtart.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=66303

comment Wake-on-LAN stops working after a few hours
Assuming you have other Windows PCs on the network, you could try using a Windows utility such as:nirsoft.net/utils/wake_on_lan.html from one of those. If it always works from there, then the problem likely sits with the Linux server or the commands you are running. If not, it may be a switch problem. I've used wol extensively in the past on hundreds of machines and have only ever used a "wol macaddress" format... Never needed to refer to the ip address.

comment Cannot edit anything in folder
When copying a folder it will inherit permissions, but when moving it will retain its original permissions, as long as the move is within the same NTFS volume, see: support.microsoft.com/kb/310316 In that sense it's not completely accurate to say "Explorer treats copying/moving differently than creating new files." - it only treats moving differently to creating new files and only when it's on the same volume.

What do you get when you go to the Effective Access tab and enter your username? Ownership and full control permissions are not identical.

No problem... My answer was admittedly too brief and I think Rik has nailed it anyway :/
