Without a spec sheet or photos, we have no idea what it looks like. Is the damage to the adapter or computer? If it is the computer is the damaged side, the wire likely needs to be resoldered. If it is the adapter, it is likely easier to just buy a new one.

That sounds like a networking issue to me. Is the IP globably routable? Or is it local to your network. If it's globably routable, try leaving a ping running a few hours and see how much loss you get. mtr is also a good diagnostic to use if you have access to a nix system.

You need to specify a placeholder. By default, xargs appends all arguments to the command. You need to insert each argument into a seperate command, in the middle. This requires the placeholder.
