comment Does Acer use a BIOS whitelist on my Acer Aspire One ZG5?
Okay. Just making sure you knew about that. I haven't been able to find any published data about a whitelist for the ZG5, though.

That looks like it's a half-sized mini PCIe card. The Aspire One uses a full-sized mini PCIe card, that may be a bigger issue than compatibility with the BIOS.

comment How to enable booting on WIndows 8?
You say the Windows 8 partition shows up as free space. This pretty much guarantees that the Windows 8 partition was 'deleted', i.e. removed from the partition table. You should look into software that can recover a partition that was deleted.

You should include the model ID of the wireless card in the post in case somebody can confirm it.

I was going to add, if there is any other software that logs TCP/IP connections it could be in a log there. I don't believe that Ubuntu comes with one of those installed by default, but it may have changed.

comment What is this “plate” on the bottom of my Acer Aspire One ZG5 and can I replace the WiFi card with just this?
In the guide you sent, there are antennas in that port. Assuming yours is the same, you should have luck finding them there.

What do you mean? Does the port in the bottom of the computer not have antennas?

Like I said, give it a shot! If the card fits into the slot, it's only a few screws away and won't cause any problems that aren't reversible by just taking it out again. I personally replaced the internal card when I did that, without prior knowledge of laptop assembly and it's had no problems.

It does depend on what exactly you'll be using it for. The slot on the inside would be the 'primary' card that would be used, as the outside port is more of an expansion port for say, a 3G card or other PCIe card. Most computers don't have 2 wireless cards, so as a permanent solution it would cause less trouble to only have one installed.

comment SDHC unreadable on Windows 8 (but on OSX works fine)
Well, you were copying through the camera on Windows, so I'm inclined to say that it's the camera's interface that was slowing down the transfer speed. I think that if you were to format a blank card on Windows to FAT32 as a test, it should be able to work on all operating systems if the camera supports it.

comment Remote Access on WAMP Server
You put your static IP address in the browser and it gives you the router settings page? That's a whole other insecurity in itself, but are you inputting your static IP followed by :8080? If your router is properly configured to forward port 8080 to 192.168.1.150, it should be loading that page that Apache is serving.
