I am an accounting systems analyst for a Canadian bank. I have studied accounting and business administration in Montreal and my experience in programming includes a little bit of many languages / technologies (PHP, C++, C#, VBA).

I work daily with VBA and many different versions of the Office suite (2000 to 2007) though I am still very much learning VBA.

comment Excel Formula Edit to Autofill
If you are certain that you won't screw up other formulas this is the most efficient way to do it.

comment Use an user defined function for data validation
Is the range on another worksheet ? Data validation is limited to what is on the same sheet as the validation.

comment Combining two Excel sheets
Can you group the "duplicates" on one same sheet together ? Because then it's a simple matter of using SUMIF. If not, that's another story because there is no identifier to separate two entries for the same store on one sheet.

This is more of a SU question. You open that Excel file so that Excel does not have to do it everytime it needs to update its values. Close it when you're done.

comment Mapping of child elements
I'm sorry I tried my best to make it as clear as possible but it is quite a complex problem. Elements starting with "FD" are parents and elements with only 5 characters are children. If a parent has a mapping associated with it then all its children should have the same mapping except if the child was specifically assigned another label.

comment Changing cell values based on another cell
@toti You need to tell us a bit more. How many conditions or statuses are there ? Is it only cell A1 that you will modify and expect the other cells to follow ? What should happen if the value entered is something else than 0 or 1 ?

@Naresh : I would -1 that comment if I could. OP asks for conditional logic. Your formula breaks on his second case (if it's zero).
