See below. If you can communicate via telnet on port 25 you can connect via SMTP - if you can't, you can't.

Are you sure you meant FireZilla? FileZilla comes with XAMPP and is an excellent SFTP/file server solution. All I saw for FireZilla (besides Pokemon) is a XUL download manager project on SourceForge.

Didn't see the comment about the CPU fan - agree with Philip. Remove CD or unplug the optical. Also maybe check your speakers - a loose audio connection might be grounding occasionally.
