I started learning web design to support my efforts as a singer/songwriter. I'm still doing that, but these days my actual job involves building intranet resources as well. My skillset is PHP, HTML, CSS, and Javascript (I'm a big fan of jQuery).

@Cawas - according to this article, it started shipping with Mountain Lion: cnet.com/news/… I found out about it from man pmset, where the noidle option is listed as deprecated.

@peter You make a very good point, and thanks for explaining that. It's something I need to remember as a programmer. :) It's still a bit of a side issue for this question's purposes, though. My question was about why we can't get faster clock speeds; your answer is about why we don't currently need to.

@user20574 - right, but on that analogy, we'd be carrying larger and larger laptops as we move to multi-cores.
