comment Windows 7 can't write to root of non-system drive
No, but the error is due to UAC, not a filesystem error. UAC is preventing me from writing to the root of a drive, because it thinks it's the system drive for some reason. Do you think it's actually worth doing a disk check?

There are no deny rules in place, and I am trying to write to the root by right clicking and hitting "new bitmap image". Or, by trying to get Photoshop to use F: as its scratch disk.

It just says "Healthy (Page File)" under the status thing.

NTFS. The reason I want to be able to write to the root is so that I can store my Photoshop scratch file there.

That seems to just be a movement detector. I want something that will take a picture every X seconds, and save it somewhere.

comment Increase speeds with an unmanaged GBE switch?
@Rain just noticed your question. It's a DGND3300 ADSL modem and router combined. However, as you can see from the edit on the OP, I've narrowed down the problem to a device setting. I now get speeds of about 12MB/s [96Mb/s] on contiguous files, which is damn near the theoretical maximum. Gigabit can wait for now :)

Yes, both PCs have gigabit NICs. The main point though was that the switch is unmanaged. I was worried you would need a managed switch in order to do this.
