comment Can't turn on Microsoft update in Windows 7 x86
It's worth noting... or is to me, at least, that this same issue impacts the server versions of Windows as well, or at the very least Server 2008 R2 (don't have any 2012/2012 R2 servers I can test this on at the moment). Anyway, thanks for helping me figure out why I couldn't use Microsoft update on a bunch of my servers.

comment How to gain access to Windows Users folders on a read-only backup medium
Sounds like a UAC issue. See if you can access the folder(s) with an elevated command line (like PowerShell), rather than Windows Explorer.

comment How to delete a file in Windows with a too long filename?
Pure genius, man. Saved me a huge chunk of time when some idiot saved an email with the whole damn email as the file name... and made me wonder why I hadn't thought of it before, especially since I was using robocopy to preseed some file servers at the time. :)

comment Samsung 700z Laptop Unusual Screen Flickering
While it's powered on, pour some water into the GPU. You'll be able to honestly diagnose the problem as a massive short circuit in the GPU to satisfy your boss, and move onto something more useful, to satisfy yourself.

comment Samsung 700z Laptop Unusual Screen Flickering
You've clearly wasted too much time on this already. If it's under warranty, return it and let Samsung deal with it. If it's out of warranty, time to buy one that is in warranty.

comment What is this Filezilla Connections Timeout setting for?
Well, if it's less than the "no transfer timeout", it would kick in first, yes. The "no transfer timeout" setting is used to prevent connection keep-alive techniques that rely on, for example sending a LIST command every so often. Regarding the topicality of the question, you are free to edit it (such as adding your comment into the question), which will put it in a review queue for community members to vote on whether to reopen it or not, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. I wouldn't have put it on hold unless I was confident the community would have eventually. But, you're free to try.

comment What is this Filezilla Connections Timeout setting for?
It tells you how many seconds a client can be idle for before it is disconnected.

comment Fedora 8 on intel atom device using live image burn with unetboot
Fedora 8: Code Name Werewolf, released: 2007-11-08, end-of-life: 2009-01-07. This has been end of life for almost 5 years. In fact, it's been out of life for 4 years, 10 months, 19 days, 10 hours, 43 minutes and 48 seconds. I suggest upgrading. At least 5 years ago.

comment Short-circuited ethernet wiring? Cable tester loop
Tell your landlord the broken Ethernet cable has started a large electrical fire that's threatening to burn the place to the ground. And if necessary, start one. Bet he comes quick.

comment Is my hard drive in the process of becoming faulty?
Well, I'm assuming you didn't go around renaming drivers before either. I'm not saying it isn't a drive going bad... it very well could be... I'm just saying that it could just as easily be a result of messing around with low-level system driver files as well. And for future reference, Windows hanging at the Windows logo for 10 or 15 minutes isn't always an indication of a problem. Happens frequently when processing a lot of updates, or when an applied update goes wrong and has to be removed. For next time, I'd advise a little more patience before attacking those driver files.

comment Is my hard drive in the process of becoming faulty?
I then attempted to boot into safe mode, which froze on a few drivers. Restarting (again hard) I boot into recovery and use command prompt to change the driver names most of which included drivers from the AVG package. My face literally palmed there... so thanks for that. But the actual source of your problem seems to be that you got impatient and started screwing with things you didn't understand. You probably just need to format the drive, reinstall Windows, and do it better next time. On the topic of doing it better, ditch AVG and use MS Security Essentials.

comment Windows 7: Accessing share over wifi
I may be wrong, but based on the error message: Multiple connections to the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed, I'm wondering if the issue is that multiple connections to the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed.

comment What do you call the area on a hard disk smaller than a sector?
I'm talking about the spot that stores 1 bit of data, the tiny little area that stores either a 1 or a 0 magnetically. ... and what's wrong with calling it a "bit?"

comment Could not Remote Login or Ping server
Microsoft Update KB2667402 (critical update, patches a vulnerability in terminal services) has been known to cause this. For me, installing the "next" group of patches always seemed to restore terminal services, but others have had success with uninstalling the patch and reinstalling it manually, on its own. The lack of detail in your post makes it hard to say if this is the case for you or not, but it's worth a look - see if KB2667402 was one of the updates installed.

Not an answer to the question asked, and if you'd bothered to read even two lines of the question, you'd know this is not working for the asker. Your post is bad, and you should feel bad.

comment How to set four virtual desktops in Windows 8.1 like Ubuntu?
Unfortunately, this application is crap, and I suspect the underlying API is as well (Sysinternals usually puts out good apps, afterall). Therefore, while you're technically correct that this is a virtual desktop program... it is certainly not one worth using, leaving us with only 3rd party tools to achieve virtual desktops worth having on Windows. Pity.

Enh. We don't like link-only answers here. Especially link-only answers to a product. A little spammy. Maybe improve this with some details about this pllugin, or how to do it with this pulgin, or like that there.
