I don't have a Start menu, but I mashed the Windows button and entered "Windows Update" - I eventually got to Windows Update history, but it was just a blank slate, so to speak. Please see update 2.

Apparently Run.bat was the problem, at C:\SharePoint2010EasySetup\Labs\EasySetup\Source. I haven't rebooted yet to find out for sure, but I'm 98.314% confident.
