comment Samba not found
/etc/init.d/samba restart works very well on 9.10. I just had the issue, and it came with the upgrade to 10.04. It just changed to smbd.

comment Unable to connect to windows shares without restart
Funny, first it doesn't work, then I type net use \\servername\sharename which says that everything is ok. And then it works afterwards... - every time.

comment Is NTFS on Ubuntu stable?
You can read and write the data on the 64-Bit ntfs partition, but sometimes, windows won't start anymore afterwards (actually you needn't be reading/writing anything, mounting is enough...) ...

And beware of NTFS when accessing 64 Bit Windows Vista (unless you want to rescue your data)

If you have one or two weeks of time to install. I don't accept anything over 1 hour.

I did run Vista on that (worked fine), and I still have Vista and XP on another partition, but I really don't want to use XP and/or Vista unless I really have absolutely no other option.

I had Arch. Arch wireless network doesn't work, it disconnects randomly. And pacman is really buggy, and yaourt is a pain in the ass. Some reverse DNS problem, I was able to figure out. But not the solution... But it would be an excellent distro if it wasn't for those 2 problems. Well, I could life with having to correct pacman errors, but not with non-working internet/networking (sinc dns is the problem, ssh is not working, too).

comment Vista search replacment?
Correct. You see, there's a massive difference in time in a live search through a few directories, as compared to indexing the entire drive... But yes, locate32 is fast, unfortunately, latest additions to the filesystem only show up once you update the index (15 min)

comment Vista search replacment?
Why? Simple: Because the search assistant worked, although he was slower.

i already have locate32, unfortunately the annyoing thing on locate32 is that updating the index takes soooo long, and then you still can't search for text in the file. That, google can, but google slows down the system too much.
