comment Disable mouse support for Linux
Ended up implementing a solution based on what @Nykakin posted. Mind making an answer out of it?

comment CLI cURL works flawlessly, Apache with mod_php cannot resolve host, how to fix?
Adding it to hosts did make the script work.

gethostbynamel gives a bunch of 80.233.168.* entries.

That doesn't change the fact that I have a problem with DNS'es related to Apache, mod_php and curl on the machine.

FYI: curl_setopt has to come before curl_exec, but, It doesn't even get that far to gather headers, it simply cannot connect. Dies all the time with Could not resolve host. I did already try the IPRESOLVE_V4 option before, doesn't work. Did it now again, nothing...

comment In span of some days, memory climbs up to 90%, then stays there. Is that a memory leak? How to detect what processes use cached memory?
I do not care about it being free or full used or whatever, I was just uncertain what is causing this, and whether I should be on the lookout for fixing the potential issue.

Would give another plus for Linux Ate My Ram. Thanks for explanation, it's all clear now.

comment Possibly a dying hard drive, but reads, writes work - unsure about log entries
This appeared to be the real issue. Something wrong with the connectors, because after some messing around with hardware, the errors stopped.

I already ran a S.M.A.R.T. scan with the smartmontools.

comment Is it safe to “use” to disk if extended smart check is in progress?
Okay, won't interfere with normal usage, what'd count as abnormal usage? My scenario might have ~10 IP cameras writing to disks at 2MP per frame - how about this?

comment Reading CPU usage
Since my system has only one core, this ended up in a error. Changing to k/(cores==""?1:cores * cpus) fixed the problem.

Hmm, it seems to me, that top does not reflect the real usage. I made about 60 web-requests to the server, and all of them stayed on 97.7% idle, even though the table showed usage at 5.8% for top. I mean, it showed 97.7% in the header %Cpu(s): 1.5 us, 0.6 sy, 0.1 ni, 97.7 id, 0.1 wa, 0.0 hi, 0.0 si, 0.0 st. Do I have to read the total usage from somewhere else or should I calculate on my end?

Thanks for the free tip, and looks like I am gonna stick with top then. Accepted!

comment Partition used and available size in bytes
I simply want to retrieve the actual size in bytes, I'm developing an web application that needs these values. That sdd1 partition resides in a USB flash. Partition is 3GB, and the filesystem there is built with mkfs.ext4, the particular partition is bootable (contains OS).

Oh, and these 201MiB's are OK for filesystem on 3.0GiB partition?
