comment Transfer Kindle books to Toshiba Thrive
I do not think that kindles or Thrives are computer in the context for a SU question. If this was to transfer files from one of the tables to a computer or visa versa it would be an acceptable question here. VTC.

Could it be Antivirus running during a time the computer is idle? Or some other scheduled task?

comment Upgraded Computer, Now It Turns Off Randomly/Won't Turn On
Is the computer stable and stay on in safe mode? Looks like you upgraded RAM, GPU, PSU and added an SSD. Try going back to original configuration. Ensure it is still stays on, and replace one item at a time (remember to remove drivers). If no issue after the first item, add the next. You could have bad ram, bad GPU, bad driver....best to narrow it down with the one-by-one install.

Why deface / delete your answer? It needed details of what the link(the link you provided in your original answer) does to solve the question.

@damryfbfnetsi - Why the bio update to "delete my account"? It cannot be that bad can it? This is just a little heat.

I think you answered your own question: worked on carpet, discharged spark, now laptop is taking the big dirt nap. Just becuase nothing happend before with carpet and sparks does not mean it will never happen. Just my two cents.

comment Computer Screen Showing Lines, not even hitting bootloader
Check your RAM. If you have two sticks, pull one out, try to boot. if it works, switch sticks and see if it still boots. Bad ram can cause all kinds of problems. A good first place to check before a full tear down. Might even want to see if you have any spare known good sticks to try just in case they are both bad.

There is NIST as well no? Sync via internet clock (as an example).

comment Can this be something else than a defect graphic card?
I think you are discounting the issue with RAM too easily.Ram that is faulty will also give you visible interuptions on your screen. That has happened to me when two sticks went bad. If you have multiple sticks, test them one at a time and do a memtest.

comment Will installing a new motherboard make my computer usable?
What make and model of Laptop are we talking about? It may be as easy as doing a factory refresh from the recovery partition. If you can get it back to factory fresh and it boots, then no need to buy anything.

comment SLI bridge vs powerful GPU?
There are some good articles if you search> I looked into this myself some time ago. You can get a little more performance with two cards (bench mark noticeable in some instances, visibly noticeable in other instances...all depends on what cards you use)...but what exactly is "Mid level" these days? or days to come for that matter. Todays high performance is tomorrows mid level.

comment Is this hard drive salvageable at all?
There are no gears in the HDD. What you may be hearing is contact of the reader head and the platter. Does it show up under disk management?(rt click Computer>manage). Minitool partition wizard has a free 1 gig recovery from their free version. or it can try and copy the partition to a good drive if the old one is detected. Otherwise, a professional and costly recover would be an option if the data is that important.

comment What is a fail-proof way to finally set-up and use a printer over the network?
@zack_falcon - might be a silly question, but may as well eliminate it as a root cause. Because you have two different versions of windows are you using HOMEGROUP or WROKGROUP? it seems with different versions of windows you have to be sure all computers on your network are in the same WORK GROUP. Same versions of windows can use home group.

comment What is this “Default Profile”?
@Ramhound - It is in fact my wife's home laptop. The default profile is present if I go to C:\Users as well, just never noticed it before. Here it is accessible, but grey in contrast to the other account.
