comment New PC wont restart
Just a thought - Try taking mobo out of case and try and start it up (psu, CPU, 1 stick ram). Maybe place the mobo on it's cardboard box that it came in. This is just in case the wrong amount of stand offs where used and there is a short somewhere. If it still does not start, might be good to RMA the mobo. This is assuming you have checked for bent pins on the CPU and tried swapping each stick of ram in the test.

comment Hard Drive Ultra DMA CRC Error Count
@Sickest - the count will not go away once the error occurs. So, changing the cable did the trick. Thus, going forward you have to monitor for increase. If you changed the cable, you will probably find that the count stays the same from here on out. :)

comment How can I tell if a copy of MS office is Product Key Card or Full Retail?
@magicandre1981 - I used magical Jellybean to get the key and what version of office, like 2007 home and business. It does not state key card or retail. Your saying there is software that can identify that?

comment Loose power-cable connection
@ispiro From Wikipedia - Remote sense can be used to force the power supply to counteract the voltage drop by raising the voltage at its output terminals. If successful, it will exactly cancel the drop along the leads, yielding the correct voltage at the input terminals of the load

@sawdust - $6000 and $15000 depending on the unit type? No one is beating down the door at those "bargain" prices.

comment Custom Built PC gets momentary power and immediately shuts down
Over use of non required stand offs could also cause a short. But your thought on the four or eight pin Alt power to the mobo can and dose give the result the OP stated.

comment My motherboard doesn't support AHCI, is IDE mode + SATA 2 much slower for new SDD/HDD/SSHD?
@BlueRaja - nope. I left everything as it was and ran the tests. I wanted to see the difference AHCI made.

I think I have hooked up a 4 pin case fan to this in my computer. Also there are PCI cards that utilize this for power as well.

comment How can I determine if a certain hard drive will fit my chromebook?
@fixer1234 - I think the only challenge to you statement is the thickness of the drive 7mm - 9mm could make a diff of fitting or not. :) but otherwise, I agree.
