comment Is there a cap on simultaneously active Wi-Fi Access points in a single area?
I seem to recall an interesting story from an IT conference where reporters were tethering to their phones, generating hundreds of access points in a single hall. They wouldn't give much of a signal but will probably still pop up during an ongoing scan.

comment Disable “Prevent this page from creating additional dialogs” for certain websites as a user
So you'd suggest blanket-disabling the pop-up protection and then only allowing trusted JS to run? That does seem like a valid solution. Personally, I ended up removing NoScript due to the amount of configuration involved in getting new sites to function properly so I'd likely prefer the inconvenience of ignoring security dialogs over that.

comment Is a home NAS reliable to keep your data on (no other backups)?
Michael already provided an excellent in-depth answer but I wanted to note that what you describe in your question is not a backup but simply a versioning system of your working copy of the data. It's a reliable solution against human error and file corruption but doesn't match the requirements of your scenario.

comment How can I synchronise my Outlook Calendar with Google Calendar (preferably using a free/open source tool)?
@aus It's true that Google Apps Sync no longer works, but Google Sync stil ldoes when you use a legacy version of the Sync Tool. Check Alex Frolov's answer.

This answer needs more love. The article contains a link to an old version of the Sync Tool that still works. In case the article goes down, the link is: goo.gl/xAeU3V

comment Is it safe to power on a motherboard outside of its case?
Not only is it safe, assuming you follow the precautions listed in the answers below, it's in fact a good practice for new builds. Fully connecting all motherboard components outside the case and powering them on will quickly identify any components that might have been DOA. Once you've checked that the system boots, then you can install it into the case.
