comment Windows 7/Ubunutu dual boot
I did a clean install of Windows 7 and will try everything again. When I installed Ubuntu I used the advanced partition manager and created a fourth partition for Ubuntu (Windows used first 3). Instead of creating logical partitions (swap, root, home) i dumped everything in ext4. Then I wrote it to the beginning of the disk. It wasn't really what the tutorials were advising but I followed a friends advice in trying to accomplish it quickly. Running the VAIO system recovery CD's now.

JPbuntu: I saw boot-repair option in the forums but wasn't sure if I could run it off the Ubuntu live CD i had created.
