comment Bash regex to rename set of files
Sorry, I didn't read the question carefully enough - I've updated the answer. You just need to change the separators around the file name root: just replace the dashes around $2 with underscores in the second regexp.

comment Unix script to launch an application on local PC
@g4ur4v I believe the question about what you want to do was meant more like "Why would you want to do that?". Note, that the application running on your PC won't be able to access the files on the unix box if that's what you're after.

Also remember, that some servers do grey-listing - they first refuse and wait for retransmission. If that happens, message is delivered (because many spam farms just ignore the protocol and do not re-send failed messages).

comment Cant find the term firewire in a man page - ubuntu
Very likely because you don't have the manpage of that name installed. If you check the ubuntu manpages you may notice, that it is provided by the freebsd-manpages package. If you install it, you should be able to read it off-line with man, but note that since it comes from FreeBSD not all information therein may be correct for Linux. For general terms like Firewire, USB, SATA, wikipedia (or a search engine) really is a better source to start with (if you want to get some insight).
