It is safer to use /usr/bin/loadkeys in /etc/rc.localsince the path environment variable is not guaranteed to be set at this stage. And sudo is not needed in rc.local.

Yes, my curl installation indeed supports FTP. As far as I know the path should be OK as it is the same as the one I successfully cloned from (I'm doing git push with no additional arguments).

OK, thanks, /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-updates-available is the command I'm looking for. However, it can't be run as non-root as it creates a file in /var/lib/update-notifier. As far as I know you should be able to check for new updates without being root.

Unfortunately my router does not have a WPS button. Yes, I use Linux (as indicated by the first tag) with an X desktop. I installed the driver through apt from the repository at bchemnet.com/suldr. Before using this repository I tried to install the driver downloaded from samsung.com but it failed due to an unresolved SANE dependency.
