Yes, through the CCC see i.imgur.com/U61bkg9.png . But it's disabled and if enabled, shows up in the upper right, not the upper left, corner.

I don't understand your "boxes (fails) .. fraps.. makes boxes" stuff. As I said, even without the FRAPS FPS counter the appear. Btw, I updated the question with some insights I recently gained.

Not that I'm aware of. I've set up that files belonging to my media library are in a certain directory and this one gets auto-discovered by my TV. I play via TV.

I'm just using the natively available media streaming options, I don't use any third party software (to my knowledge).
