I'm a blockhead.

It's not reasonably clear if you don't even have a JAR by that name anywhere that the program could find it. It doesn't even tell you what it actually incompatible with what else.

comment What version of PowerShell comes with Windows 7?
$PSVersionTable would be a better way to check than get-host. See stackoverflow.com/a/1825807/1394393.

Alternatively to globally setting the execution policy, you can create a command line that sets it for the process: powershell -ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned -File .\myscript.ps1.

WhoLockMe states it's for Win NT to XP. Does it work on higher?

comment Is there a built-in method for computing an SHA-1 or MD5 hash in Windows 7?
This is not quite true anymore. PowerShell 4 adds the Get-FileHash command. (About time, isn't it?) Although, to be fair, PowerShell 4 is only installed in the very newest Windows operating systems right now, but upgrading is extremely reasonable on older OSes. (PS4 has a LOT of other nice things, too.)

comment How can I delete everything after the first column in Notepad++?
@TorbenGundtofte-Bruun No, regex is math. It's all based on formal language theory. Try taking a basic course on writing a compiler. Things will start falling into place.

comment How do I test whether a variable has multiple non-blank lines in bash?
I'm getting a syntax error on the first fi. Unfortunately, I'm stuck on bash 3.1 (msysgit version). I don't see anything that looks like a syntax error to me, but obviously I'm missing something. Thoughts?

@krowe Thank you, but can you point to an specific answers there that ignore trailing blank lines? I didn't see any. (Also edited the title accordingly.)

@dtech Could you elaborate on "official"? What does that mean? Who is endorsing it? Does is mean anything beyond the fact they put it on their page?

I gave up on Clonezilla, too. I'll try to see what product it was I ended up using later, but it wasn't dd directly.

I think this question would be cooler if it were titled, "Is speed enhancement software the new 'download more RAM'?"

comment Powershell equivalent to unix `which` command?
If Get-Command finds multiple results, it returns an array. Additionally, if the command it finds is not an executable, Path is undefined ($null). This makes the answer here impractical for general use without heavy modification. For a good example of both these cases, try Get-Command where.
