comment gpg: WARNING: message was not integrity protected
@mirabilos Hmm. I did not experience that. It is a bogus message then anyway as one can validate the integrity based on the signature.

The question is about S/MIME, not about PGP.

comment gpg: WARNING: message was not integrity protected
MDC is only needed for in cases when you don't sign the encrypted file, because the recipient can check the integrity of the file by the sender's signature. So, just be sure to sign the encrypted file. However, for symmetric encryption (using passphrases), see How do I fix “WARNING: message was not integrity protected” when using GPG symmetrical encryption?

comment How do I add more passphrases for GPG symmetric encryption?
No, this doesn't work. It will result in a GPG-encrypted file within another GPG encrypted file (filename.gpg.gpg). The only way to decrypt it is by using the second and the first passphrase together. This is not what I'm asking for. Please elaborate.

"I'm trying to install Mint" <-- I'm sorry, but that makes it quite off-topic here, I'm afraid. Mint is not Ubuntu.
