Happened to me after a re-install of XP. Apparently, years ago, I had corrected the problem, and it took me days to find out that it wasn't the Adobe color settings, but my monitor/driver color spaces causing the issue.

I understand it to that extent. Just wondering if there's a particular method of giving a Mac a tune-up. Similar to all the crazy "make your PC faster" software for Windows, I've seen some for Mac as well, and didn't know if there was something that exists that I should even bother looking into.
