@rlb.usa: Stardock is the company making the app, not an application itself. Most (all?) of their software requires that the impulse client be installed to download it.

comment How do I limit the CPU share of TrustedInstaller.exe on a Vista system
I tested win7 on one of the systems, it's version of Trusted Installer was much better behaved. If nothing else works I might end up recomending for an OS upgrade.

comment How do I limit the CPU share of TrustedInstaller.exe on a Vista system
I found a utility that's designed to cap a processes CPU share. Unfortunately while it works fine on processes I started it can't lock onto trusted installer (running in kernel mode?). deztec.jp/x/05/faireal/BES-index.html

First thing I tried. I don't know why, but even at the lowest priority it was still devouring the CPU and leaving the rest of the system lagged to unusability.

comment How does a hard drive compare to Flash memory working as a hard drive in terms of speed?
I thought the flash drives used in netbooks were all low performing models that only outpaced magnetic HD's in seek time, but still fell behind in transfer speeds. I know SATA ones you can buy aftermarket are much faster than anything else on the consumer market.

comment Pairing DDR3 Memory - 2,3 or 4 chips?
It's very minor and won't be noticed outside of benchmarks, but if you use both banks of memory your memory controller has to use slightly looser timings to allow the signals to stabilize properly.

comment What happens if I put 2GB of RAM in Dell 2350 which allows max 1GB RAM?
It's less likely but there's also an option 3: It might actually recognize the second GB. I have an old Fujitsu tablet that did that. According to the spec sheet the biggest sodimm it supports is a 256mb module to supplement the 245mb soldered on the board, but it works fine with a 512mb sodimm in the expansion socket and 768mb of ram usable by the system. I assume the spec sheet was written the way it was to avoid confusion because at the time there weren't any 512mb sodimms available.

comment Bandwidth preserving browsing mode
Opera has a setting to only display images in it's cache. AFAIK you can click on the image placeholders and select download now. I'm not certain since I've only ever used this mode accidentally. That meets your #2 requirement. Other than an ad filter I don't know anything that partially meets #1.

@Elazar Leibovich One of the things it does is to reencode images at lower quality settings to reduce their size. While it won't help with all binary types it will speed the loading of jpeg heavy sites. I don't know if it attempts to downsample streaming video as well; I suspect that might be too CPU intensive to do as a free, realtime, service.

comment How to fight off against a government's internet censorship?
You can buy VPN/HTTP proxy services directly instead of having to get a VPS and then configure the service yourself. For less technical users, or those who don't need any other VPS services this is a simpler and less expensive option.

comment TV Tuner to record / show multiple channels at the same time
I've had serious reliability issues with the two hauppauge tuners I had in the past. The first was an external model that only half of my computers would detect at all. The second was an PCI card that periodically would stop being detected and required a multiple reboot driver removal/reinstall process to get working again. A few years ago I replaced that one with an ATI PCIe1x card that's been entirely problem free.

comment How to take full advantage of Dual monitor setup in terms of productivity?
The free version of Display Fusion is very limited. None of the 2nd monitor taskbar apps fully support win7 yet. Display Fusion and Task Se7en current come closest depending on what features you want. DF is best if your preferred configuration is similar to that of prior versions of windows with each app in a seperate taskbar item with text showing. If you like all your windows grouped into a single text-free icon (win7 default) Task Se7en is what you want. AFAIK noone has a bar that supports both modes.

@Jitendra vyas: IT depends on the monitor. The cheapest ones don't have rotating stands but at normal sizes most do allow you to rotate the screen 90* in one direction. With really large (eg >24") monitors rotation tends to disappear from midrange monitors and only be supported by high end ones.

comment Proper 16:9 video size for non-HD 4:3 video (for youtube/vimeo)
Agreed. Also there's the fact that aspect ratios probably won't stay 16:9 forever. Eventually once everyone has an HDTV and a Blueray to keep the buy it again and upgrade sales coming hollywood will have to come up with a successor tech. Increasing the aspect ratio from 16:9 (1.77:1) to 2.35:1 (the wider widescreen used in cinemas) is an obvious option since the average consumer doesn't have enough room for the 80 or 100 inch screen needed to make doubling the resolution worthwhile.
