comment tar: Cannot create symlink : File exists
Are you possibly untarring it to a filesystem that does not support symbolic links?

comment Dropbox causes xorg to use 100% CPU
The bad thing about faulty closed software is that you have got very few possibilities to debug or improve it. You would find amazing things when strace-ing some programs :) Active waits, redundant repeated file accesses and so on.

comment Kill browser tabs with Bash from younger to older
Just by killing the process the tab will not disappear. You are actually producing an abnormal condition inside chromium. Maybe you might need a plugin.

comment sudo cp with wildcard syntax doesn't do anything in Linux
Add "-v" to the cp command to see what it is actually doing.

comment Can't connect to SSH with new user
ssh connection problems are never solved from the client side (it mostly just says "no") but from the server side (look into /var/log/auth.log or the like). For security reasons, the server will not provide detailed information on access denials.

comment Make certain files read only on boot
Maybe you want somethink like SELinux. Anyway, without root access your config files should be pretty safe.

comment OpenWrt: Cannot install package sudo
Considering that routers are usually only accessed by their administrators, they typically use just the root account, and can happen that the sudo package is not even compiled for those platforms. First try to find if it is available in the repositories.

comment Using ssh to connect to a windows machine, I can create a folder or delete a file, but can't create a file
But it is perhaps a good policy not to let anyone write to the root directory by default.

comment Putty: 'Server unexpectedly closed network connection'
Ssh offers two kinds of keep-alives: TCP keep-alives and ssh keep-alives. TCP does offer a mechanism to automatically close connections deemed dead because of timeout. It is about activating a flag in the socket.

comment In UNIX, the rm='rm -I' is not working
First of all you should check that the argument exists in "rm" by doing "rm --help" or "man rm". Otherwise, the alias should work simply like that: alias rm='rm ...'. That said, aliasing "safe" executions of otherwise dangerous commands is very dangerous since the programmers get used to expect a warning, thus getting into trouble when this system is not set up for any reason.

comment Rsync resume with Expect script after Broken pipe on remote server
It is a very ugly code, but it can be used as a bad example. :)) Using expect for providing the password for ssh instead of using pubkey authentication, using «while [ 1 ]; do expect ... » instead of «while ! expect ...».
