A computer scientist at heart with a conviction for deduction.

I'm a poor mathematician but pretty decent with TeX. Let me return the favor!

TeX.SE rules.

Check out my blog over on @GitHub! It has (or will have) a lot of good resources:

  • StackExchange markdown reference (to link; things like explicit syntax highlighting and a short rundown of markdown)
  • Recommended TeX resources and editors

Insanely curious, slightly snarky, and a little absent-minded.

comment Hi My Lenovo desktop is failing music playback
Welcome to SU. I would update your question with more specifics -- perhaps detailed instructions on how to recreate your issue and how it could be fixed. I would also re-word your question to be more concrete; instead of "Please offer advice", perhaps you could say something like "Why does solution X fix the issue and how can I make the effects of X permanent?"

@lawlist The if is evaluated as one would immediately expect though; I simply use it as a quick-toggle construction. That is, it works when the test is t.

@lawlist Well, I did include the [emacs] tag :( font-lock isn't one of them, as I recall

@lawlist Good to know, thanks. I don't think that'd have an impact in this case though.

@Downvoter, have the common courtesy to leave a suggestion as to how to make this question better. This is on-topic for this site.

In fact, I just noticed that when using nil, all font lock fails.

Related, before I ask another Q (in case it's another silly mistake like this...) - is there any reason it should work for this face? gist.github.com/vermiculus/6b2e6aad3c2ec14dc20d @Drew Ah, I suppose there's no (easy) way then to mark comment-only syntax.

Thanks again. I did try to find a reference for the syntax of the regular expression here; since \\< isn't standard, there must be some documentation on it. I couldn't find it anywhere in the manual, however -- do you know where I should look?

I thought for sure it was the comment-start in the syntax table. I'll try this asap, thanks

comment How can I properly interpret M4's $# variable without starting comment syntax in emacs?
@lawlist That's a partial fix: (modify-syntax-entry ?# "@" m4-mode-syntax-table) will work correctly for /^#.*$/, but will not work for /.*#.*$/ (as far as actual comment syntax is concerned).
