comment Bulk erase Zip disks
I think I have a tape degausser around here somewhere. I'll try that or an old speaker driver magnet and see what happens.

Oh, I have a simple cross-cut paper shredder, so it won't work for the media. I may need to take one of your other suggestions.

I don't need to use them again, but they are too big to fit through a shredder. They have a thick, hard-shell case. (Think: 3.5" disk on steroids.)

comment How to tell Firefox that a file will never change?
Hmmm -- so you are forcing a refresh of the page? As you found, that negates the cache control headers. I don't know of a way to make Firefox not to reload that particular file when you force refresh a page.

Make sure to get the polarity correct when you reattach the wires.

comment OS X terminal app with custom tab names?
I, too, tried multiple tags in the plist but couldn't get it to work either. I also couldn't find any documentation on the acceptable values of a plist file. Unfortunately, it may not be possible.

You'll need to be sure the beta doesn't clobber your profile folder though, right?

"iphone" is not an appropriate tag for this question.

You're right -- I edited the answer with instructions on how to add the appropriate values to the terminal PLIST file. Sorry for sending you down the wrong path to start with.

The Shell -> Edit Title menu item will change the names of tabs, too. The window title will take the name of the active tab. The one thing I can't figure out is how to save a terminal configuration file with more than one remote connection. Hopefully that won't be a requirement for you.

Another hint. If you create the window with the Shell -> New Remote Command... menu item, the configuration file will also save the fact that you are connecting to a remote system.

comment Disabling Mac OS X Mail.app periodic SMTP server check
This did the trick. I created a new keychain and dragged the SMTP authentication credentials from the display of the 'login' keychain to the new keychain. Then I changed the keychain settings by right-clicking on the new keychain, selecting "Change Settings...", and unchecking the two "Lock..." settings.

Good idea -- I'll try that out and hopefully have an answer in the next 10 minutes or so...

comment How can I replicate incoming imap mail to another folder?
Unfortunately, no -- I don't have anything ready-made. It is possible in theory, but I haven't done it myself.

comment Can I make Terminal.app open different profiles with shortcut like iTerm?
If you are running Quicksilver, you could add a trigger that would open the settings file. I'm not sure you could do it with a stock MacOSX install.

That is not something I've tried before, but you could use the -m option of fetchmail to push the mail to another IMAP box using a IMAP command-line application.

Thanks for adding the blockquote with the feature description, Arjan!
