comment vim: Text copied into * register disappearing
I'll give that a shot, thanks for the heads up. In the meantime, I have a question: if I'm SSH'd in to a machine, shouldn't yank and paste both be run within the context of the remote machine? In the simple example of one vim session with one buffer, vim should be using the same register for both operations, correct? Is the issue because it's being sent to unnamed, and I should instead account for SSH instances and force vim to copy to a different register in that case?

comment How do I cd in to the directory made by tar?
Ah, great, this is what I was looking for. I'm working with tarballs that only have a single top level directory and somehow just assumed all tarballs were the same. Obviously not. Thanks!

Absolutely wonderful; editing a few lines from version.c, then running make and make install worked perfectly, though now Powerline is confused as all hell ;) Thanks again, I'm going to enjoy playing around with this. I hope others find this as useful as I did (though I seem to be the only person to have Googled for this...)

Awesome, thanks for the info. I'm assuming this means that if OS X updates Vim, I'll be redownloading and recompiling?
