comment Is there any way to encapsulate bash functions?
Asking about security is a massive question (one that is pretty much unanswerable with the current info provided), perhaps you could share what specific concerns you may have with security? Things that'll help in a general sense are the ownership/permissions of the script and what it/the owner/group are allowed to do on your system.

comment Why is SSH not honoring my authorized keys?
@TicketMonster - You also need to cat id.pub >> authorized_keys2. Depending on your ssh protocols enabled, you need both authorized_keys and authorized_keys2. Restarting the service is unnecessary, unless you change ssh/sshd configurations.

comment How did Linux get on sdc when I insalled it on sdb
The disk assignment can float with different disks added/removed (installation media, for example, can make the system enumerate them differently). For that reason, UUID is starting to be more commonly used when supported (for example, in fstab). That being said, are you open to using the GRUB loader instead of Windows Longhorn, or do you specifically want the windows bootloader? Did you do the WUBI install or boot into an installer medium?

comment MacBook Air startup disk not found, but verified
Did you do system updates or install anything (or do anything else, such as change partitioning, etc.) just before this happened? Try to remember everything between reboots when it worked and then didn't.

comment Can you tranfer files off the ipad with bluetooth?
Whoever voted this down, just as the other, please explain why. Seeing as it addresses the question and cites the sources. If you provide feedback, the questions can be improved (system wide, not just these cases).

comment How to set different window managers to different users under Linux
Generally you could use the ~.xinitrc file for each user, but if you want to restrict it - then you may need to have the global one (I think in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc) check which user it is (bash syntax) and execute accordingly. Though, technically a user would still be able to make a local one that would override that. (I'm not on my computer to check for config files to ignore user defined)

comment Stolen Macbook Pro, want to gain remote access
Man, I am really sorry to hear that. Though as @Keltari said, that is very fortunate to have the IP (great way to find it, by the way). I don't mean to discourage you, but I highly doubt you'll be able to remote access since that requires either a) A service running (teamviewer, hamachi, etc) or b) Router port forwarding (and generally a service like SSH, etc) - so sometimes it requires both. You could do some port scanning on the presumed theif's IP to see if there is a possible vulnerability in. But that then puts you in some grey areas (and some definite black ones).

comment Is there a tablet that is not ARM architecture?
You must be looking in all the wrong places, or define tablet differently than most. Intel's List via the term 'intel based tablets'. There's also the Surface Pro, etc. The reason arm is so common is the fact that it's very power conscious - when most x86/64 cpu's aren't as much and a tablet is made for portability.
