I have this setting enabled already - this is evident from the fact that when I look into the actual Tamara folder, the hidden folders are indeed hidden. However, they remain in the left pane. I have also restarted Windows Explorer quite a few times with no luck. You were able to make the folders disappear from the left pane?

Unchecking "Show all folders" removes the user folder entirely.

@Karan I mentioned in the question that the screen grab is from XP. I don't currently have access to my Windows 7 machine, but one needs only to go to "Configure Advanced Settings", or something of that nature, to access the equivalent "Turn off hard disks" option in Win 7.
