comment Use PowerShell to Retrieve Volume Label of Locked BitLocker Drive
Just to satisfy my curiosity, does the USB drive label still shows up if you connect them directly to the computer (while the drive is locked)? and after re-formatting?

Well, then you should try first to unplug the USB dock you've mentioned earlier.

Why destroy? can't you backup the data?

So I think you should solve the real problem (which is duplicate GUIDs) instead of looking for an unreliable replacement.

Also, I think it's better to rely on GUIDs - you can't change them directly and they are unique (well, except in your situation, but it's probably due to some weird configuration on your computer).

I've tried it myself, and the volume label was missing in the "Computer" window. I've done this test using a VHD file (instead USB drive) inside a VM, so maybe that's the reason for the different rersult (though I don't understand why - volume label should be encrypted yet).

From what I've seen RDP versions 6.2 and higher do have some problem. You can try coping the mstsc.exe, mstscax.dll, mstscax.dll.mui from a Win7 installation (without the updated RDP), and run them from your Win8.1 machine.

Also, have you considered using Application Control Policies (a.k.a AppLocker)? You can block all executables quite easily, and allow only those you know. Only the most advanced malware can bypass that.

Have you tried combining it with powershell?

Software restriction policy is quite straight forward, but here's one: etutorials.org/Server+Administration/… and here's one for the file permissions: wikihow.com/Change-File-Permissions-on-Windows-7

It's always good to have updated drivers and firmwares, but I think the problem is physical. Have you tried connecting external speakers?

@TristenHorton Can you replace you PSU? the fact that it seems fine doesn't mean it is. It might be too weak to hold under strain.

You'll find related events only if you configured it before. Otherwise, there isn't much you can do.
