I concur yet there it seems to be. I'm building another machine today and going to try it again on that one to see.

According to WD tech support it will not work under Win 7 at this time. I didn't encrypt it either. Not sure what kind of magic they do on those drives...but I have moved to from Vista to Vista box with no problem but it does not work on two Win 7 machines I've tried to use.

comment MacBook Pro running Vista often drops wireless connection when connected to Windows Home Server
Unfortunately...there isn't a whole lot more to add. I can sit with my laptop connected to say WoW for hours...no problem. But when I connect to WHS...I'll be cruising along...and then all of a sudden the taskbar icon shows that I am not connected to a network. Right click...reconnect all is good. But this will also happen when I am doing a manual backup via the WHS...and this is no bueno. Drivers are all updated...seems ducky, except for the random drops.

The WHS is wired, and the MBP is wireless.

comment How does dust affect a computer?
it was probably about the 2000 era...they used to just explode when they got too hot.

comment Why does Microsoft Windows' performance appear to degrade over time?
My other guess is that it might be due to the Windows Update process and how it patches. That's complete conjecture on my part, derived from the standpoint that I've seen this behavior on machines that only surf the web and get Windows Updates.

I have noticed this as well. My best guess is along the lines you had with registry entries and defragging. However trying to address either with cleaners or defragging doesn't really do the trick and a complete re-paving of the box is necessary.
