comment Windows 7 Explorer: how to show total size of all files in current folder?
that opens a pane at the bottom, but the pane doesn't show file sizes unless one selects 15 or fewer. At least that's what happens for me: i.imgur.com/xE30wKO.png

@Uninspired, thanks. I did search before posting but did not turn up that information; guess I used sub-optimal phrases.

comment How can I equate the same user on different Windows 7 machines within a home group?
the only way I found to do this was to turn off homegroup sharing, leave the homegroup, and use advanced sharing properties (see here ), and then create the same accounts on all the machines with the same passwords.

comment 750Gig Hard Drive shows full with only 315Gigs used
this, and most other tools, won't show the actual disk consumption because of "Windows Side By Side" or winsxs, see superuser.com/questions/1/…

+1 for thinking of command line ftp! However wget and powershell were both mentioned well before you joined the party, so -1 there. :-/

why the downvote? this looks okay to me and is a direct response to the question. Yes it's clunky and could use improvement, like escaping ampersands (&) in the url, but it works as is.

this is true as far as it goes, but stops just where it gets interesting, for example how does one go back to old school sharing? The old school tools are either missing or disabled, for example Computer Management >> Local Users and Groups doesn't exist.
