comment Can't connect to host on computers (wifi/lan) but works in Android Phone via wifi
Can you do a ping 8.8.8.8? If this responds, then you are having an issue with DNS lookup.

comment Wife's Windows 8.1 notebook won't connect to wireless network when my computer is connected at the same time
You say you have DNS queries failing, can you just not resolve names? Can you open a command prompt and ping 8.8.8.8, if you can, you have a nameserver issue.

comment Apply full vim colorization for bash scripts that have no shebang line
:syntax on have you tried just turning on syntax highlighting? You could add this to your .vimrc to make it run every time you vi.

comment Clone OS to another partition as bootable
The data that actually tells BIOS which partition to look at to complete boot, is in to boot secotr in the beginning 512 bytes of the drive - If you clone to a new partition, you will need to run windows bootsect to reconfigure your bootmanager.

comment multiple router setup (Double NAT issue)
Ahhhh, setup DDNS on the primary, not the secondary. The secondary's IP address is on your intranet, so it has an internal IP, your DDNS host needs to know about your public IP.

I am going to try and use Workstation for a bit and see if that solves any issues.

comment VMWare Player presses and holds random keys
I always switch using the mouse, minimizing from the toolbar. I am using the keyboard that is part of my Dell Latitude e6520, also does it with an external Apple keyboard.

Have you tried using the keyboard on a different machine? Is it a hardware, or a software issue?

comment Port forward with linksys WRT54G2
Ahh, okay. So, by default your server was set up to only listen to connections on the local interface. This is a safe practice when you are doing testing, as it disallows external connections to the server. Happy you are back up and running. Happy coding. :D

127.0.0.1 is localhost, and will always redirect to the machine you are using, so from the computer that is the server, this will work. From all others, you need to specify the physical IP.

comment Port forward with linksys WRT54G2
An HTTP server by default listens on port 80. If you type an address into your web-browser, it will only scan port 80. You have specified XXXX, so I am guessing that means that you changed the default, to specify a port with a url, do the following for your URL. http://192.168.0.100:port/index.htm. The IP can either be assigned as static on either the router, or the computer, you should not do it on both. My suggestion is to do it on the router.

I actually found this quite useful, and have been using it in that mode for a while. Still not a fix, but thanks for pointing it out.

comment Linux (Mint) Equivelent of Explorer.exe on boot
I found that the xserver could be started with a specific initialization script, so I created my own init, and added an entry to /etc/profile to start xserver with my script, if my created configuration file could not be found. This scripts runs the jar that I require at boot, and from within my program, I can now change just a few things to resume normal boot to mdm.

It seems as if this is what I am looking to do. I will try this as soon as I am back in front of my desktop, and let you know.

Because I have no idea what puppet is, and I know how to do everything I need to do on Java. :D I need a stupid simple graphical interface that can do everything from reading bytes out of the MBR, to communicating with the server via https. Can puppet do all that with ease, and a relatively quiet learning curve?

comment How to prevent mounting file system without booting (linux)?
Presumably yes, however without the MBR, the attacker would need to know the exacts sizes, locations, and formats of all the partitions.
