If You use original OpenVPN client, Browser proxy may be not important (at least I do it in other way). I configure socks in OpenVPN config itself. Somewhere in Program files/Openvpn is *.ovpn file with text config for connection.

I mean, TOR exit nodes can sniff traffic, so You anyway can't trust it in confidentiality. It only censorship bypass and anonymity tool. You anyway need second layer of encryption, thah You can trust end to end from client to VPN server.

Yes, at least twice. So You can not trust to tor encryption. For performance You can lover anonymity in tor config to minimum.

Hard case, but I think solution is very simple. Try reproduce it with other TCP server, netcat for example, where connections logged.

Look like You seek for "media advertising box" solution (it special platform for doing what You describe at industrial scale). If You planning use for it cheap media frame, You probably need to hack it for remote control.

Define what kind of screen You want to use. If it Android Tablet, then highly possible remote dispay app already in Play market.

Yes it main problem "how control Your <screens> remotely". But there no universal solution. Other ex.: Suspect this "screen" Linux based, then may be You can hack in shell and may be get remote control.

For example, if you can force "screens" to open url in browser and browser support video and java-script, then possible control it from some kind central web app.

It depends on how you can control Your "screens" over LAN. (I use screens in quotes, because simple dumb screens don't have LAN connection.
