comment Why some unicode characters are missing in charmap?
Recent versions of Visual Studio uses Uniscribe, too... I tested with dejavu-fonts.org/wiki/Main_Page DejaVu Sans (free font), and it shows in the charmap on XP. Maybe you can dl that font and test with it too.

comment How to allow Firefox 9 to open non-port 80 web site?
Which port? 21? As far as I know there is no way to allow some low ports that can be abused via XHR like port 21. To override see kb.mozillazine.org/Network.security.ports.banned.override if you can accept the security risk...

comment What can an end user do with efi or uefi?
efi capable OS can boot faster via EFI than via legacy BIOS, since it does not have to go the whole 16-bit -> 32-bit -> 64-bit route. and installing a new OS creates less driver issues. however, most end users will never install an OS nowadays (or even boot from a removable disk), so I only put this as a comment here, not as an answer :)

comment Blue Screen crash, how do I read the WinDbg output?
a Java program reading a registry key should not cause a BSOD, and surely not a double fault. There must be some driver or other component that was triggered by that registry read and caused the crash, like antivirus.

comment How to efficiently merge a lot of vCard files for the same person?
But you will have to manually look over every contact every time, I guess? I found a way using SVN and a few Perl scripts; it is very hacky but it can track which information has already been discarded :D

comment How do I convert a Linux disk image into a sparse file?
@endolith you will need extra space, yes. but since you can compress the tarball, you will only need space for the original file and a compressed version of the sparse file.

comment Manually install Java plugin
I'd guess either somewhere in /usr/lib/jvm or in /usr/java. I don't have that version of Ubuntu... It must be a directory called "ext" in a directory called "lib". you can search for all ext directories with locate or with find / -name ext

comment Excel not properly recalculating values
does this happen only for this formula or also for others? are you able to reproduce it in documents not built with the perl library? As formulas are stored in a complex format (not as text) in .xls files, to automatically translate function names for non-English Excel versions, maybe there is a bug in your excel lib that creates a formula that "renders" the same but "acts" differently?

comment How to install ac-R mode in emacs?
your problem is not missing mule, but that ac-R.el is a HTML file and not a Lisp file. Make sure you have saved the correct file there. :-)
