comment Excel formula for one cell to repeat across a different column (perhaps IF command)
Must this be a single-cell formula? As in, can you add a column next to column N that has something like =If(And(N23<=$C$2,N23>=$L$2),1,0), and then just get a sum of those formulas?

comment VMware Player loses internet connectivity
Just a note that I'm no longer experiencing this problem, because that particular computer gave up the ghost a while back. I'm now on a Windows 8 (hack, ptui) box and the internet seems to stay up just fine on all my virtual machines. If anyone else is having this issue and one of these answers was helpful, could you add a comment to that effect? I'd like to un-accept my placeholder answer and accept a real answer, but have no way of testing things.

comment Is there anyway to stop Windows 8 from restarting for an update?
Also, "I would be surprised if Windows would really restart while you're using it": it really does. You can have 14 different applications open, all with unsaved data, and it will still restart. I'm telling you, HAL had nothing on Windows 8.

comment Excel's date format without a year
Exactly this. If having a 2012 in there is really a problem, then the only option is to format the column as text, and forget about using Excel's date formatting capabilities. Of course, that means also forgetting about sending birthday cards on the appropriate day...

comment How do I shut off reply when sending an email to a large group?
What I want to know is, if my answer was downvote-worthy, why hasn't this answer been downvoted as well? This suggestion has all the same pitfalls as changing the reply-to, with none of the benefits.

@Keltari: when a question lacks details, we have to assume things. You assumed that she wants to receive non-automatic replies, for example, even though by some interpretations her question contradicts that.

Actually, you can sometimes tell your email client how to differentiate between auto-responses and real responses, and filter your incoming email accordingly. You'll still get the auto replies, but you can send them straight to the round file. And there will always be the odd email server that formats its auto responses totally differently than anyone else.

comment How do I shut off reply when sending an email to a large group?
@Keltari, (a) since he's sending the email to a large group, he presumably doesn't want replies, and (b) humans are smarter than auto-responders and can send replies to the "from" address.
