I'm an electrical engineer currently working as a software engineer and developer. Prior to that, I was a computer tech for 6 months at a independently owned computer store while I looked for an actual engineering job.

I'm a big gamer, with a lot of it taking place on the PC, but I also own a 360 and PS3.

Why aren't you just reformatting the partition? Seems to me like it'd be faster and easier in the long run.

comment tips for removing stuck heatsink
If you support the heatsink (which should be the tallest item on your motherboard) then you should be fine. there shouldn't be any lines within about an eighth of an inch of the pin, so you do have some room to slip off.

I'm with BloodPhilia here. Do you want the other user to be somewhat obscured for security reasons? Is it a bandwidth limitation?

comment Router keeps disconnecting from the internet
One way to test it would be to connect one of the laptops to the modem with a cable, and if it still drops the connection, then it's likely the modem or line, not the router.

Have you called your ISP? Do you also have (digital) cable TV? I would suggest that you get them to run a line test, if only to rule them out as the problem.

The only thing is, he's connecting all of his computers to a wireless router. So unless the router is having problems with the modem, I don't see how a bad NIC could cause the issue.

comment How to copy image with an empty area in photoshop
Wait, Gimp has a leg up on photoshop in something? In Gimp it's File->Open as Layers... and works with both an already opened file (which becomes the background) or by opening multiple files at once (the order is determined by some form of sorting).

I'm not a photoshop user, but is there an add file to layer(s)? You'd basically want to open one of the files as a layer (or set of layers) of the second file.

Run a memtest on the machine. If you have a Linux live CD sitting around, most have memtest on them, otherwise google for a download.
