This is a hardware specific problem. Most likely the USB devices aren't being loaded until the operating system boots.

Wait, is this on a Linux machine or a Windows machine? Are you trying to open the folder where the files are located or are you trying to move the them to a new location?

How hard is it to spoof a MAC address, since you'd have to get one that's on the whitelist. I know anything that is transmitted can be picked up manually, but isn't that a lot of work?
