Without shift it goes back and forward in a browser.

comment I think my laptop just died
@Joel: Yes, indeed. Considering manufacturing defects in the model, I wouldn't recommend paying for repair since the problem can come back.

@Joel: Interesting, can you put a link on the "research"? I'd like to know what they say about the issue.

comment What Linux command can I use to verify that something is in the process list?
I originally thought this should be moved to superuser.com and voted as such, but the OP wants it in a shell script so stackoverflow.com is appropriate for it.

Jim: if you want to use it in a script, use pidof process_name.

@Guard: Yeah. My answer addresses the original version of the question. The question has changed significantly since then ;) The original title was "Microsoft is tricking?"

comment 64-bit linux kernel only seeing 3 of 4GB after upgrade
mgb: It's not an address space issue. It's a physical address mapping issue. If your chipset does not support address remapping for 3GB-4GB space, no matter your OS is 32 bit or 64 bit, you can't access the amount of memory masked by I/O devices for MMIO use.

comment What is overclocking the system?
Not just a CPU. It's applicable for other processors (e.g. GPU) and bus frequencies.

+1 for WiFi. Most of the time it's the better choice.

comment How to remap eject key on MacBook keyboard to “delete”?
KeyRemap4MacBook (together with NoEjectDelay) works but the problem is, you can't hold eject to delete a long string. It just removes a single character each time.

comment Is it better to use a laptop on battery or on AC power?
Indeed. Contrary to what most people think, the power circuitry is usually smart enough not to charge the battery after a threshold. The primary issue is temperature.

comment Enable trackpad tap-to-click in BootCamp on 1st-gen (non-multi-touch) MacBook?
Maybe on the newer multitouch trackpads, since it's not available on my first generation MacBook Air (which does have multitouch but not four finger gestures).

Did you guess this or you've actually done this? Since I'm pretty sure there's no official way to do this. You can find lots of request on Apple discussion boards about this.

comment How to keep iTunes libraries in sync?
I have already enough file sharing methods in place. DropBox would be the last method I'd use for that purpose. The problem is I don't want to just copy stuff blindly. The method should be aware of iTunes library stuff. Path names can change between machines.

The library file have path names in form of /Users/Mehrdad/Music/... on OS X while on Windows it's D:\Music\.... I can't just blindly copy them.
