Setting up a machine to use a key over SSH Is your server a Windows machine? I cannot imagine another reason for Putty-generated key to work, and Linux-generated key not to work... |

Why doesn't video run smoothly on my laptop anymore? Did you update video drivers recently? If yes - try looking for the even newer 'fixed' version. Please check if a different video player (try mpc-hc.sourceforge.net Media Player Classic) also has these problems. I'd also ask if you had any codecs installed recently, but VLC uses internal codecs, so that shouldn't be a problem... |

The bottlenecks of any computer, what to look for? Ouch, webapps in lynx? Did you mean to say 'websites'? Also, I wonder if lynx does any disk-based caching - 3rpm HDD wouldn't be at all funny then. |

The bottlenecks of any computer, what to look for? I agree, that some specific uses/tasks will need very little HDD performance. But most day-to-day tasks are hampered by HDDs: OS loading/startup, archiving/extracting (unless using 7Z Ultra or similar), starting up any common applications (office/internet/media/games), compiling, copying/moving files between partitions or to/from external devices, navigating directories full of photos/videos in 'thumbnails' mode, ... I believe I could continue for a while. Even if you never have CPU use under 90%, you will still be very often limited by the HDD. |
