Industrial programming by day. Teaching myself Python by night. Please let me know if I'm doing it wrong.

@techie007 Linux Live boot is a brilliant idea.

Not yet. I'm preferring to avoid it because I've already sunk several days getting a bunch of proprietary software installed, and in the past it wasn't successful, albeit with other models. If I don't get a good solution here, I probably will though.

Might be a silly suggestion, but does your SD card have a physical read-only switch on the outside?

Since my vimrc does not have format options set anywhere, I suppose that means that it's default? :verbose set fo tells me formatoptions=tcq Last set from ~/.vimrc but I don't have anything referencing formatoptions in my vimrc

Well the guy who wrote the vimrc set it up as a github repo and actually wrote a blog about it. sontek.net/blog/detail/turning-vim-into-a-modern-python-ide

Line 199 was a comment describing 200, I initially thought that 200 was the cause of the problem so I commented it out, but it did not help. Thanks for your help by the way.

Why wouldn't Python be allowed? If you compiled it to a binary, there would be no way of knowing that it was written in Python.

comment Vim color scheme not showing up properly in Mountain Lion's Terminal.app
Thanks, when I get some time I think I will try this. If I can make something work I'll probably contact one of the existing theme creators on github and see if they want to merge.

I might have just found the answer, but I'd still like to see if anyone else has any ideas. The theme's download page mentions Only works in gui mode for now and I'm running from the terminal. So... it's probably a matter of finding a version that is compatible or making one.

comment Unable to efficiently switch tabs in Mac Terminal
@ChrisPage, well the main question is how to switch tabs efficiently. The OP assumed the answer would have to do with remapping the bindings, but when he saw the screenshot it solved the issue. Your comment gave the impression that this answer had a missing step, namely, remap the key of the menu item, so I was clarifying that the implied step isn't necessary.

@ChrisPage Those are defaults. I haven't set up any special shortcut keys, and they are present in mine.

comment Merge command history between the Python shell and the Unix terminal
@Nifle The main issue is not exiting python to make edits, say in Emacs or something. The main issue is that because I've already issued the from abc import * command I can't release that import and issue a new from abc import * command that uses the modified version.

comment How to sort audiobook on iTunes?
@louis8831 I haven't personally had the issue and I'm a fairly heavy user of audiobooks. Usually I find that I have missed something subtle in the metadata when something similar happens to me.

comment How to check whether an SSD will fit into my HP notebook?
Thank you. My personal recommendation is that you go with the 128GB, since even that does not go very far these days. You can always buy an external hard drive for backup storage (around $80/TB), but keep in mind that it can be annoying to try to manage, say, an iTunes library with an external drive as storage.

comment Recover from botched full disk encryption using FileVault2
@DanielRHicks I'm not willing to buy a new external drive right now that could fit a full backup, so I only back up the files that can't be recovered by a new installation. I back up for crisis scenarios, so a mildly inconvenient recovery process is not a problem for me. More importantly, I was hoping to actually learn something about the issue. So do you have any idea what's going on or are you just here to badger me about my backup methods? Couldn't almost every system troubleshooting issue be fixed by restoring from backup?

comment Recover from botched full disk encryption using FileVault2
@DanielRHicks My backup process involves manually keeping files of interest on an external drive and working files in the cloud, so while I have the ability to recover all data that is important to me, it is not a full backup, so I cannot restore.
