The OP specifically asked about blocking advertising at the firewall, and firewalls can block just about anything you want them to including a partial URL.

comment Two Routers are fighting each other on LAN
It's unlikely to work even then as the Sky router probably blocks the traffic that would allow users to get a DHCP assignment from the virgin box via the Sky access point. You could have 2 DHCP servers, so long as they both gave out 192.168.0.1 as the default gateway. Both of those rely on the box being configurable, which if my experience of Sky is anything to go by is unlikely. But the OP could buy a wireless 'cable' router online (£20-30 or so) and that should have all the options available.

ah ok. Remapping / breaking the alt key entirely is probably excessive but something here might help... ghacks.net/2010/06/06/the-ultimate-guide-to-keyboard-remapping

ok - that's a good description of when you want to do it? What do you want to actually achieve by doing it. Disabling the alt-key is quite a specific thing to do and disabling a system key isn't something I'd show someone how to do without a very good reason when there may be a better way to reach to your eventual goal...

Is there a reason to launch cmd when you can just run ftp directly?

It might be useful if you can provide more context as to why you're trying to do this.

comment Why is torrent speed slow through comcast?
For Netflix vs Comcast, that was a plague on both their houses... Comcast said Netflix weren't delivering enough bandwidth to them and Netflix said Comcast were throttling them to get them to buy more (expensive) direct connections. It seems like Comcast was the bad guy but we'll never know the answer for sure. What is certain is that without more co-operative peering setups like linx.net the USA will be in for more of these shenanigans.

comment How do I get a static IP address for my teapot?
@Vality - They may do now, I did say it was a while ago. At that point nobody could offer it in the UK as BT's 21CN couldn't carry it. To quote A&A, "we are aware that BT have some issues handling native IPv6 on some parts of their network which we are trying to resolve" they list a workaround but don't say what that is, that dates to 2008 and knowing how fast changes to the core of 21CN can take I suspect it's still the case for some.

For the UK home ISP's can't offer IPv6 directly last time I checked (a couple of years ago), something to do with the way BT's backbone is implemented. So it would be tunnel only.

comment Connect Monitor to PC without VGA?
On the raspberry you can just have it display the file, and you can update that file over the network. It would be less hassle than port replicators and all that jazz for a single screen.

Also check out microsoft.com/genuine where you can find out what the products you have purchased should look like and a link to a 'how to tell' section and if you're still not sure after that then you can contact support and they will help you.

VGA is awful over distance even with dedicated Baluns (VGA/Cat5 extenders) - depending on what you want to put on the screen you might be better off with hiding something like a raspberry pi behind the screen and just run off that.

I and many others do that very frequently. It just works, you don't need any addons. If you're having problems then something else is going on.

You're rather overestimating Comcast - what Comcast got in hot water was for interfering with the transmissions by dropping and faking BT packets to try to make users think BT was broken. Throttling is still allowed as part of their network management.
