Worked more on my problem, and it's almost solved. The steps are 1- disable all vm adapters on host 2- take the wifi card properties, and enable "vmware bridged protocol" The wifi card should be the only NIC to have "vmware bridged protocol" enabled 3- go to vmware (player or workstation) and set up one network adapter, in bridged mode 4- go into your vm, and assign your vm a static IP address on the wifi network and restart the networking service. You should be able to ping google.com --- PROBLEM : I can't ping my host machine, while I should. I need help on why that doesn't work

comment Installing 64-bit Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS, on a VM with VMWare Player, on a 64-bit Windows 7 PC
A lot of information indeed, overwhelming for newbies. 1) Know what Bios is 2) know that the BIOS is configurable 3) know how to get to it 4) the Bios doesn't mention "Intel vt-x" but "hardware virtualisation : know they refer to the same things Thanks to William Hilsum and NauT, I got the info I needed quickly, and learned frustration-free, instead of spending hours looking up all these questions on my own.

Worked ! the key to press to access the bios settings depends on the PC used (sony, dell, hp etc) - for sony, it's F2.
