I'm operations manager for Anchor Systems, where I plan strategy, help sysadmins be better at what they do, and occasionally pull all-nighters to build random tools to solve emergency problems. I've been a specialist Linux sysadmin for over 10 years, mostly in the large-scale hosting industry, working for companies like Solutions First and Engine Yard.

I was the sixth user to get to 10k rep on serverfault, and the second to reach 20k. I stopped keeping track after that. Third (by a mere 14 hours) to get the "Epic" badge.

comment Google Chrome automatically adding websites to my list of search engines?
This. Is. Awesome. I needed to create a dummy manifest.json (as per this SO answer and install it via dev mode (as an unpacked extension), but apart from that it worked like a treat.

comment Router used as ethernet bridge wont show up
So you've got a router that's a bridge and a router that's a hub (?!?)... do you happen to have a router that's a router anywhere?

comment 20GB+ worth of emails in my /home what is a better solution for that?
If 99% of your maildir is mail, expand your homedir and store more other stuff in there. 20GB of mail, with server-side indexing, shouldn't really pose any problems. Are you actually having specific problems (other than "Thunderbird sucks", for which my answer is "so don't use Thunderbird"), or merely posing rhetorical questions?

comment Determining whether a motherboard supports software suspend
Just wanted to follow up and say thanks again for your advice; the online manual for the motherboard that otherwise fit my criteria mentioned S3, so it's on order now.

@kobaltz: Once you've got a VPS to run your VPN from, why wouldn't you just serve the site directly from there?

@ta.speot.is: The OP mentioned that they'd already tested the connectivity and found it worked. How long this might continue could be up for debate, but right now, it appears that your presumption is false.

Thanks for that. I'm well aware that OS support is required. Once I've chosen a motherboard that suits my needs, how would I go about confirming that it does indeed support S3?
