What's to say? Check my personal website for a touch more detail, if you want to. I sysadmin free software professionally through my own little company. A long time ago, I and a co-author wrote "Building Linux and OpenBSD Firewalls" (Wiley, 2000). That's it.

comment How to connect a local network to IPv6 site / net?
Change ISPs to one that supports v6 natively. It's painful, sure, and will probably cost you more, but it's the only thing that will send a message to the big ISPs that v6 is needed for end-users, now.

Then I think you have two different questions. One is about connecting from inside your home network, and that is dealt with by the duplicate. The other is about connecting via connectbot, and that isn't a duplicate, but it's also not discussed at all in this question (only briefly mentioned in the comments). I would suggest that you overhaul your question so it deals much more clearly with the connectbot issue - though if this is a home setup, it may still be off-topic for SF.

If you read the linked duplicate question, you'll see it deals with the issue of connecting to one internal system from another internal system using the publicly-forwarded IP address at the gateway. At the moment, that is my understanding of what you're trying to do; is it correct?

Were you trying from inside your network? And dawud, you might want to be a bit more circumspect about posting admissions of possibly-unlawful activity on a public forum. What you post is up to you, of course; I'm just thinking out loud here.

comment Can devices steal MAC allocated IP addresses?
This is not a very good explanation of how ARP works. When XXX:999 connects, it will do more than just listen for packets to 192.168.1.20 - it will respond to ARP requests for that address, actively causing confusion, loss, and desynchronisation of TCP connections.

Don't take this the wrong way, but home questions are explicitly off-topic for SF, as our help page makes very clear.

What does your network admin say about the problem?

comment When is a mainframe better than distributed servers, and when is it worse?
For me, it would be much less bad question if you'd related it a specific workload; eg "we have the following functions to perform, which we currently think will need to be on X distributed servers, but are also considering just one mainframe instead. What factors should affect our decision?".

comment Wireshark : Why is a TTL value of the DNS response not 128?
The response packet will presumably have come through several hops, each of which decrements the TTL.

OK, have you now tried adding a wildcard record * IN A 192.168.1.5 (my sincere apologies for getting the fields in the wrong order above)?

Fair enough - I do agree with tombull89 about it being a well-written question. Have you tried putting the single line IN A webapp 192.168.1.5 (with a leading TAB) in /etc/bind/zones/db.example.local? I understand you want wildcard DNS, reverse-resolution, and so on, but try getting a single forward host to work first, to simplify the problem.

Zeophlite, please don't take thie the wrong way, but you've been a member for a while. Have you, all that time, managed to miss the line in bold in serverfault.com/help/on-topic that says that SF is not for "Anything in a home or development environment"?
