comment How to tell if Microsoft Works is 32 or 64 bit? Please Help!
If you're using Microsoft's Sysinternals Process Explorer as a replacement for the task manager, you can turn on the "Image type" column (also, "Virtualized" is useful in cases of disappearing data in 64-bit Windows).

They're called "extensions" in Firefox, too (which is why Chrome calls them that). "Addons" encompases extensions, themes, and plugins.

comment Firefox plugin to block scripts of only specified websites
By the way, you're asking for an "extension", which interacts with Firefox's or one of its siblings' or a XULRunner application's internals to "extend" its functionality, and named such to reduce confusion with plugins. A web "plugin" is a de-facto cross-browser technology whereby a page "plugs in" a window controlled by a separate binary, like Flash or Java or a media player.

comment Ubuntu vs Kubuntu: The closest Windows experience
The key point is that the OP didn't claim it's "slightly different guts", but that you evidently have assumed so in the past, which led to your epiphany.

comment msdos command prompt - edit command
To be specific, edit.com runs in the 16-bit virtual machine, which is probably changing the working directory for that program's benefit.

comment Why is so much difference in the size of Firefox and Safari setups for Windows?
XULRunner (developer.mozilla.org/en/XULRunner) indicates aspirations to become a platform, even if it's handled poorly. And Firefox is a superset of that!

comment Win 7 and .bat files
@whitequark: I'm looking at a start.exe in win95/win95_14.cab on the Windows 95B install disk and in win98/WIN98_42.cab on the Windows 98 upgrade install disk. It didn't exist in DOS 6.22. It was rolled into cmd.exe for Windows NT. It did exist in Windows 9x.

@techie007: I'll say! DOS didn't have start.exe!

comment Win 7 and .bat files
In XP, .bat files run on command.com, which is a lot slower than cmd.exe, which runs .cmd files. Support for 16-bit apps is gone in 7, but the distinction and speed difference may remain. If you don't need legacy features, .cmd is recommended, in general.
